Install Keepsake on Your Phone

Keepsake works as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it on your phone just like a regular app — but without going through an app store. It launches instantly, works offline, and takes up almost no storage space.

Why install Keepsake on your phone?

Installing Keepsake gives you the best mobile experience. You get a dedicated app icon, full-screen mode without browser bars, faster loading, and the ability to capture ideas even when you're offline.

Install on iPhone (Safari)

On iPhone, you need to use Safari — this is an Apple requirement. Chrome and other browsers on iOS don't support adding apps to the home screen.
1

Open Keepsake in Safari

Go to app.keepsake.place using Safari. Make sure you're using Safari, not Chrome or another browser.

2

Tap the Share button

Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up).

3

Select "Add to Home Screen"

Scroll down in the share menu and tap "Add to Home Screen". You may need to scroll right on the row of icons to find it.

4

Name the app and tap Add

Keep the name "Keepsake" or customize it. Tap "Add" in the top right corner. The app icon now appears on your home screen.

Tip

Once installed, Keepsake opens in full-screen mode without Safari's address bar. It looks and feels like a native app.

Install on Android (Chrome)

On Android, Chrome makes it easy to install web apps. You'll usually see a prompt automatically, but you can also do it manually.
1

Open Keepsake in Chrome

Go to app.keepsake.place using Chrome.

2

Look for the install prompt

Chrome often shows a banner at the bottom saying "Add Keepsake to Home screen". Tap "Add" if you see it.

3

Or use the menu

If you don't see the banner, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select "Add to Home screen" or "Install app".

4

Confirm the installation

Tap "Install" in the dialog. The Keepsake icon now appears on your home screen and in your app drawer.

Tip

On some Android phones, installed web apps appear in your app settings just like regular apps. You can manage notifications and permissions from there.

Using Keepsake offline

Once installed, Keepsake works even without an internet connection. You can capture QuickNotes, browse your contacts, and review your tasks. Everything syncs automatically when you're back online.
1

Capture notes anywhere

The QuickNote bar works offline. Write your thoughts on the subway, on a plane, or anywhere without signal.

2

Your data syncs automatically

When your connection returns, all offline changes sync in the background. You don't need to do anything.

Troubleshooting

Having trouble installing? Here are some common issues and solutions.
1

"Add to Home Screen" option is missing (iPhone)

Make sure you're using Safari. On iPhone, only Safari can install web apps. If you opened a link from another app, tap the Safari icon in the address bar to open it in Safari.

2

The app doesn't look right after installing

Try uninstalling and reinstalling. Remove the app from your home screen, clear your browser cache, then follow the install steps again.

3

Notifications aren't working

Make sure you've allowed notifications for Keepsake in your device settings. On iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > Keepsake.

Tip

If you're still having issues, try updating your browser to the latest version. PWA support improves with each update.
